Tender Loving Care WOrkshop
A simple programme for making everyone feel loved and special.
TLC is a practical, simplified version of Felicity Warner’s award winning Soul Midwives Training, offering families and anyone working with people at end of life, practical ideas and skills that can help improve comfort and ease of the dying person.
The workshop is a rich and varied day, with different ways to engage in the subject matter, including practical tasks, small group and one to one work. Whilst we will of course, be talking about dying, the days are fun, enlightening and far from doom and gloom!
I will bring examples from my work with the dying to show how simple steps can make this time gentler for everyone involved.
TLC is for anyone who has an interest in widening their understanding and empathy around the dying journey, but especially if you are:
What the workshop will cover
The four stages of dying
You will learn how to recognise the 4 stages of dying and how care can be tailored to support each of these stages. Many people do not know what to expect when faced with an expected death. Understanding the stages of dying can ease fear and help us to be better prepared to support our loved ones. We use an elements model to describe these stages.
holding a loving vigil
You will learn how to create and keep a loving space at the death-bed. There are simple ways to ensure that the dying space is comforting, sacred and meets the needs of your person.
We will look at holding a loving vigil by the bedside and techniques to soothe and support the final transition and how the whole family can be involved in maintaining this space.
ways to comfort and support
A recent survey showed that 75% of people would prefer to die at home, yet only 25% do. More and more families are looking to support loved ones to die at home rather than in hospital. You may feel uncertain and anxious about how to care for your loved one or those in your care. You will learn simple and practical skills to support the physical and emotional needs of your person along their journey
tender conversations
More than ever, the dying time requires you to use deep listening skills to support those difficult conversations and decisions at end of life.
You will learn simple techniques to ensure that your loved ones feel heard, valued and comfortable to enter into conversations that can help them move on and heal soul wounds for both the dying person and those closest to them.

WHY attend a tlc workshop?
Because it does just what it says on the tin!!!!!
TLC Training provides high-quality experiences in a professional and compassionate manner that promotes Tender Loving Care for the Dying.
The TLC Compassionate Community Project has received praise from the National Council for Palliative Care for the “quality of the care it gave to the dying”. (NCPC 2017), and is looked on favourably by the Care Quality Commission.
TLC is being used in many care homes, and increasingly in hospitals and other health care settings, as well as in the dying person’s own home.
In 2019 TLC was implemented by the Dorset NHS Trust, so that it is offered to all patients at end-of-life in their Community Hospitals.
Can i take my learning further?
If this work calls to you, a TLC workshop day could be the first step to becoming a Soul Midwife. After the workshop, when you have received your TLC certificate, you would be eligible to do Level 1 Soul Midwife training. Please visit The Soul Midwives School for more information.
Please note: The TLC workshop does not give you a Soul Midwife Qualification, or cover spiritual skills which are part of the much deeper Soul Midwife Training.
Please also note: TLC workshop training and contents are copyright of the Soul Midwives School and the training does not qualify you to then teach this TLC workshop to others after completion. It is for professional CPD or personal use only.
Where can the worskhops be held?
I can offer TLC workshops in-person in professional and clinical settings, community centres, hospitals, hospices, and care homes. I am based in South Devon and am happy to travel to surrounding areas. I also hold open events
in lovely venues and retreat centres across South Devon.
How long is the workshop?
The workshop is usually delivered as a one day event, but can also be broken down into two half days or four evenings if preferred. I also offer opportunities for follow-up discussions via email, phone or Zoom.
